Advantages of a Full Wave vibratory feeder vis a vis a Half Wave Vibratory feeder
There are two types of vibratory feeders, Full Wave and Half Wave. In case of full wave vibratory feeders, during one period of 50 cycle AC mains the magnet attains its maximum attraction twice since the magnetic force is not dependent on the direction of current flow. Thus the magnet produces a vibrating frequency of 100 cycles, which is necessary for smooth & reliable movement of small & light weight work pieces. As against this, some vibratory feeder manufacturers use 50 Cycles / HALF WAVE Bowl Feeders too. In this case, the vibrations are rough and heavy.
Full wave vibratory bowl feeders are costlier to manufacture but give more life and have less running cost as compared to those working on half wave coils. The major advantages of full wave vibratory feeders are –
- A half wave vibratory bowl feeder vis a vis a full wave one requires frequent tightening – 2 weeks for a half wave vibratory feeder and 6 to 8 weeks for a full wave vibratory feeders
– the reason being that the vibrations are smooth in case of a full wave vibratory feeder.
- Due to FULL WAVE Operation, the vibrations are smooth and Spring Breakage is nil as compared to HALF WAVE Operation, which leads to regular Spring Breakage / Bolt Breakage
- FULL WAVE Vibratory Feeders CONSUME 60% LESS ENERGY as compared to HALF WAVE Vibratory Feeders.
In such a case, the question arises as to why do some vibratory feeder manufacturers (in fact, majority of them) manufacture only half wave vibratory bowl feeders? The reason is that half wave vibratory feeders are cheaper to make, the vibrations being rough, bigger bowls can be used. But these advantages are for the vibratory feeder manufacturer and not for the end customer. For the customer or the user of the vibratory feeder, full wave vibratory feeders are the best option as their running cost is cheaper so also their maintenance is less. Further, in case of fragile and light weight components, they do not damage the parts. Damage to parts is a major problem in case fragile parts are fed in a half wave vibratory feeder.
Having said this, it should also be remembered, that half wave vibratory feeders too have their uses, especially in case of very big vibratory feeders and for very heavy components.
To sum up, full wave vibratory feeders should be used for light weight and smaller size parts while for very big vibratory feeders and for heavy components, half wave vibratory feeders may be used.
